A. What is Procedure Text?
Procedure text adalah teks yang memberi tahu pembaca atau pendengar cara melakukan sesuatu. Contohnya, resep, rencana perjalanan (itineraries), petunjuk manual, dan petunjuk arah (direction). Procedure text tersusun secara kronologis karena tahapannya sangat penting.
B. Social Function of Procedure Text.
Tujuan dari procedure text memberikan instruksi atau petunjuk untuk membuat sesuatu, melakukan sesuatu, atau memberi tahu cara pergi ke suatu tempat. Dapat juga digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan cara melakukan sesuatu secara kronologis (chronologically).
C. Generic Structure of Procedure Text.
Struktur umum tentang procedure text terdiri dari:
a. Goal: menceritakan tujuan dari sebuah prosedur. Bisa berupa teks judul (title) atau pengenalan di awal paragraf (introductory paragraph).
b. Materials: berisi materi yang diperlukan untuk mencapai tujuan, dapat berbentuk daftar atau paragraf.
c. Method/steps: berisi urutan dari dalam melakukan sesuatu.
D. Language Features of Procedure Text.
Language features dari procedure text mencakup beberapa hal sebagai berikut:
a. Kalimat dimulai dengan kata kerja (verb) dan dinyatakan sebagai perintah (command).
b. Keterangan waktu atau jumlah digunakan untuk menunjukkan urutan dalam melakukan sesuatu, misal first dan second.
c. Menggunakan kata hubung antara langkah satu dengan langkah lainnya, seperti then, while, next, dan after that.
d. Adverbs digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan cara sesuatu harus dilakukan, misalnya carefully, firmly, dan well.
